Having worked in suicide prevention and intervention for the last 8 years, as well as being on the frontline during COVID. I want to thank my fellow warriors for your empathy, resilience, perseverance and strength! Remember to take part in some self-care to restore your wellbeing. I don’t know about you, but I am still feeling the impact of the exhaustion from a few years ago. Make time for you! 😀 Happy Friday!

Hello All,
I am thinking of rolling out some training for my colleagues who work on the frontline (defence specific). I ideally want the training to be specific to vicarious trauma and how they can better support themself/early intervention against their risk. Wondering if anyone is doing something similar. Or if you had any suggestions?

We recently rolled out Advanced PFA training (I work in emergency service), it was more targeted at supporting others in the immediate aftermath of a critical incident/traumatic event, but the skills we learnt can also be applied to yourself. Or, you could look at the training, I think it’s called: “<b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color);”>Comprehensive Trauma Management Program”, I only just heard of this program but it’s run by WorkPlace Interventions and It sounds like it would be right up your alley and it focuses on the person.

That sounds interesting! I’ll send them an email now. Thank you so much ?

That’s a great initiative! Providing training on vicarious trauma and self-support is crucial for frontline workers. Learning to identify signs of trauma and deploy coping skills can make a huge difference.

Great points brought up here! Self-care is crucial to sustain mental wellbeing in high risk or stressful jobs. Managing work stress early on can prevent serious issues down the line. I try to practice mindfulness and meditation daily and take regular breaks to recharge. I also find journaling therapeutic to process difficult emotions as they come up. I’d be really interested to know what experience everyone has with regular supervision if it is a prefessional requirement for you? thanks
